Y Storfa is Swansea’s new multi purpose community hub on Oxford Street, created inside the former BHS building in the city centre. Opened in December 2025, the space brings together a range of public services under one roof including Swansea’s main public library, West Glamorgan Archive Service, Careers Wales, Citizens Advice and council services. Morleys were responsible for the furniture design, shelving systems and interior layouts throughout the building.

I was brought in to photograph the completed project and capture how those spaces look and feel once everything is installed and ready to be used.
The brief was to document the scale of the building, show the furniture in context and create a set of commercial interior photographs that Morleys could use for case studies, marketing and their website. That meant a mix of wide architectural shots showing the full spaces, along with detail photographs of the shelving, seating and study areas across the building.

The shoot took place after hours which meant the spaces could be photographed cleanly without people moving through the building. It also gave me the time to work through each level properly and capture the different environments, from children’s reading spaces and colourful library areas through to quieter work and study zones. Filming a drone fly through inside the building

Alongside the still photography I also filmed an indoor drone fly through for Morleys.

The sequence starts outside as the sun was setting over Swansea Bay, moving towards the newly renovated building before travelling up the living plant wall and into the glass roof section. From there the drone moves down through the levels of the building, revealing the scale of the interior and how the different areas connect together.

Flying a drone indoors always takes a bit of patience. Getting a clean line through the space usually takes a few attempts, especially with exposed ceilings and low hanging lighting to work around. When it works though, it gives a completely different perspective of the building and really shows the scale of the project.

Furniture design for modern learning and community spaces

Morleys specialise in furniture design, layout planning and project delivery for education and learning environments. At Y Storfa they supplied and installed furniture throughout the building including library shelving, children’s reading areas, collaborative tables, study spaces and seating.

Each area has its own feel, from playful colourful spaces for younger readers to flexible work areas designed for study, meetings and community use. Photographing the project once everything was complete shows how those design decisions come together in a real environment.

The images from this shoot are now being used by Morleys for their project case studies and marketing.
